Principles for Happiness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ARK Logo More and more research discussed in the literature today is emphasizing that optimistic people live longer, have lives they describe as more significant and meaningful and have a general sense that there are ways of living that they believe leads to better outcomes, in other words, happier lives. Many principles are cited in each of the individual studies which contribute to individual happiness. Examples include;
  • Focus on each new day's opportunities and not getting to hung-up on fretting over your mistakes.
  • Understand your self exercises. Spending time asking what makes you happy at work, school, home, with friends, by yourself, etc.
  • Learn to stop judging your self. Being nicer to your self and to others. Give the benefit of doubt more often and find ways to encourage yourself and others.
  • Have fun with a passion. I personally have found that my greatest times are in the real moments I have to play with my grandchildren Ethan and Emory and watch my own children and their husbands care for each other.
  • Tackle problems one at a time with your single best solution and take pride in your accomplishments. It is not about having the world's optimum solutions, but more appropriately your best efforts.
At the ARKGROUP, we believe, that you and all of us, will change the world - one child, one family, one student, one classroom, one school and one community, one community of faith at a time.
Ways to Improve Your Quality of Life
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My thanks to the U.S. News and World Report, December 25 - January 1 edition for the following thoughts. In that Special Report, it was refreshing to me and I hope to you, that those words of encouragement offered such a broad scope of possibilities to enrich our lives in 2007. Everything from ideas to grow our lives in health, mind, family, community, planet and home. I think what encouraged me the most was the challenge the article and its authors offered with what I suspect are the most important questions of our individual lives.
  1. What can I Hope?
  2. What can I know?
  3. What should I do?
At the ARKGROUP, we spend a lot of time wrestling those questions not only for ourselves, but for the organization and for the many GROUPS we serve as we "Hope" for the future of our own and our world's children and their children's children.

We would be interested in your suggestions, ideas, hopes, knowledge, experiences, plans and efforts about ways to make tomorrow even greater opportunities for our children's futures.

Please share your ideas and read on...

GAPS - Let's Consider What This Means to Us
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Children our future If Texas were a town of 100 children.
  • 44 would be Hispanic
  • 40 would be White
  • 13 would be Black
  • 3 would be another race or ethnicity
  • 49 would live in low-income households
  • 21 would lack health insurance
  • 25 would lack childhood immunizations
  • 60% of the Public School children are approved for free or reduced price lunches.
  • A 16% increase in child abuse and neglect occurred in one year to these 100
  • In TAKS testing, less than half of economically disadvantaged students (23 of the 100) compared to 74 % of non- disadvantaged passed all four tests
    In 2005, the dropout rate increased in Texas by more than 10%. Dropouts earn an estimate $7,500 less per year than High School graduates, are more likely to receive government assistance, and are incarcerated at higher rates than High School graduates. The questions; What can I hope? What can I know? and What should I do? are ever present. ARK Goals are to:
    • Teach and model the revolutionary power of unconditional love and respect
    • Build better families and classrooms
    • Reduce juvenile and adult violence by improving self-esteem
    By:
  1. Combining cutting-edge self-concept research with the very best in current parenting and teaching theory.
  2. Helping adults to provide the love and nurture that allows children to value themselves.
  3. Establishing a framework for building character and values in children.
  4. Teaching adults how to discipline the behavior while still affirming the worth of the child.
We encourage you to join in our programs and networks as a participant and as a provider and or facilitator today. Equipped with our programs and processes , you can have an intentional and lasting impact on the critical difference in a child's future. Your gift will be unmeasurable to the children you touch and to your own heart because of the commitment you make to build hope and knowledge for the future of our world through your actions.
