Lesson 3: Achieving Academic Success

Staying in school–and doing well at it–are going to require that you pay attention to a few things. Important things like attending class and studying, managing your time well, and handling your money responsibly.

It doesn’t make any difference how smart you are–if you don’t go to class, you probably aren’t going to stay in school very long. Most teachers give quizzes and tests off the content of their lectures as well as from the materials they assign to be read. And, even if you get someone to “take notes for you,” it’s still not the same as being there to hear what’s being said and taking notes on the things that you think are important. Being in class also gives you a chance to ask questions and clarify concepts that you don’t understand. And, believe it or not, the vast majority of teachers appreciate honest questions regarding the material.
