Lesson 8: Concerning Alcohol and Other Drugs
You’re probably saying to yourself, “Good grief, another drug lecture?” Well, maybe a little bit. But really it’s more of a gut check regarding your self-esteem because, just like with sex, the way in which you use alcohol and other drugs has a lot to do with how you feel about yourself.
I’m sure you realize that abusing drugs and alcohol is a sign of low self-esteem? If you’re not feeling good about yourself, it’s natural for you to want to fill that feeling of emptiness with things that will dull your awareness—which is what drugs and alcohol do. Those of you who run the biggest risk of developing serious alcohol and drug problems are the ones with a family history of substance abuse, those who are feeling stressed or depressed, and those who feel like you don’t fit in or are out of the social mainstream.
