Lesson 1: Convening a Family Meeting
Most families operate best as “controlled democracies”–with the parents functioning as the chief executive officers. In democracies, everyone owns a piece of the decision-making process and is made to feel that their opinions and contributions are important. One effective way of accomplishing the family’s democratic goals is through a regular convening of family meetings
Family meetings should be fun experiences and can begin when the children are in elementary school. Their purpose is help family members bond together, celebrate their successes, support each other during challenging times, solve problems, and organize busy schedules.
