Lesson 2: Evaluating Our Teaching Behaviors

Great teachers are made, not born. Like every other profession, to become really good at teaching means having to labor at the craft. Effective teachers love their jobs, enjoy kids, and do not allow themselves to become complacent. They are constantly evaluating themselves in regard to how effective they are in regard to their teaching behaviors.

As discussed in the previous lesson, great teachers work at providing a classroom experience that includes rigor, relevance, and positive relationships. In regard to the teaching behaviors that help teachers to achieve those goals, Dr. Melissa Pierson, former Associate Dean with the University of Houston’s School of Education, says that effective teaching is a “three-legged stool.”
