Lesson 3: Becoming a Great Teacher

We use the word “becoming” to indicate an on-going process. Great teachers are always seeking methods and ways of sharpening their skills and becoming even better. The process includes several important elements that are common to all outstanding educators. First and foremost, great teachers focus on the “Three R’s”.

Traditionally, the “three Rs” in education have been “reading,” “(w)’riting,” and ”(a)’rithmatic.”  While still important elements of a quality education, they have been replaced in the modern academic vocabulary. Today’s “three Rs” are “rigor,” “relevance,” and “relationships.”
