Lesson 4: Initiating Supportive Relationships with Administrators

Teaching at a school with supportive, progressive, and hard-working administrators can make all the difference for teachers.  Unfortunately, this is not the case for every teacher; some teachers work with challenging administrators.  Considering how mentally, emotionally, and intellectually challenging teaching can be, a work environment with encouraging administrators is the best possible scenario for teachers. However, whether teachers have supportive or unsupportive administrators, it is essential that teachers find ways to create a good professional relationship with their administrative staff.

Some teachers rely on the administrators to create a relationship. However, just as it is easier for teachers to remember and develop a relationship with a student who initiates a conversation, so it is with the administrative staff.  They remember and appreciate teachers who take the initiative in developing relationships with their administrators.
