Lesson 7: You and Substance Abuse
Most of you will have some sort of experience with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. Yes, unfortunately, this is true. Some of you will experiment and stop without any significant problems. Others of you will continue to use casually for the rest of your lives, paying varying degrees of penalties. (Typically, you don’t see the link between your actions today and the consequences tomorrow.) Some of you will use regularly for many years with alarming levels of physical, emotional, and social problems. A few of you will develop a dependency and be uncontrollably destructive to yourselves and others. It’s natural for you to feel indestructible and immune to the problems that others experience; but, because of substance abuse, some of you will die, and some of you will cause others to die.
